PCIE Cables Safety Calculator

Use this tool to calculate the Safety Factor of PCIE power connectors based on your expected GPU power draw (TDP).

You can enter TDP values from tools like MSI Afterburner, whether you're running default, overclocked, or undervolted GPU profiles.

Configuration 1
Connector 8-pin power 12VHPWR (H+) / 12V-2x6 (H++)
Rated Current per-pin 7 Amps 9.2 Amps
Rated Power 7A × 12V × 3pin = 252 W 9.2A × 12V × 6pin = 662 W
Specified Power / TDP
Safety Factor 1.680 1.472
Configuration 2
Connector 8-pin power 12VHPWR (H+) / 12V-2x6 (H++)
Rated Current per-pin 7 Amps 9.2 Amps
Rated Power 7A × 12V × 3pin = 252 W 9.2A × 12V × 6pin = 662 W
Specified Power / TDP
Safety Factor 1.680 1.104
Additional Notes
1) (Rated Current) Depending on the wire cross-section. HCS-type terminals have lower contact resistances, permitting even higher currents and more mating cycles.
2) (Rated Power) For the entire connector with all applicable pins loaded at 12 V. The old 8-pin power connector only uses three pins each for ground and 12 V. For this calculation the nominal voltage is used instead of considering the ATX 2.0/3.0 tolerance band.
3) (Specified Power / TDP) Specified in the PCI-SIG CEM specification.
