What Cables Do I Need?
by Nada on February 14, 2026

A standard PC system typically requires three main categories of cables:

1. Motherboard Cables

  • 24-pin ATX (24p) – Main power supply for the motherboard
  • EPS12V (4+4 pin / 8-pin CPU cable) – Dedicated power for the CPU

2. Graphics Card (GPU) Cables

  • 6+2 pin PCIe (8-pin PCIe) – Standard GPU power connector
  • 6-pin PCIe – Used on certain GPUs
  • 12-pin PCIe – For RTX 30 Series Founders Edition (FE)
  • 12VHPWR / 12V-2×6 – Required for RTX 40 Series, RTX 50 Series, and selected AMD RX 9070 XT GPUs

3. Peripheral Cables

  • SATA (5-pin) – For SSDs, HDDs, and compatible accessories
  • Molex (4-pin) – For legacy devices and specific accessories

Should I purchase a Kit or individual cables?

You may choose between:

  • A complete Kit – Recommended for most users building or rewiring a full system
  • Individual cables – Suitable if you only need specific replacements or additional cables

What is a Kit?

A Kit is a bundled set of the minimum cables required to power on a PC. It simplifies the buying process by ensuring you receive the essential motherboard cables along with the appropriate GPU cable configuration.

Each Kit includes:

  • 1× 24-pin ATX cable
  • 1× 8-pin EPS (CPU) cable

The difference between Kits lies in the included GPU power cables.

  • 3× 8-pin PCIe

Kit 5 (For RTX 30 Series Founders Edition)

  • 1× 24-pin ATX
  • 1× 8-pin EPS
  • 1× 12-pin PCIe

Kit 6 (For RTX 40 Series, RTX 50 Series, and selected AMD RX 9070 XT)

  • 1× 24-pin ATX
  • 1× 8-pin EPS
  • 1× 12VHPWR / 12V-2×6

How do I determine which Kit I need?

Select your Kit based on your GPU model and its power connector requirements.

Please verify:

  • The type of connector your GPU uses
  • The number of connectors required

This information can be found on the GPU manufacturer’s product page or in the official specifications.
